The Art of Whisking Tea
Shogun’s Gallery is honored to host Jan Waldmann for two introductory tea ceremony classes in our new open gallery classroom.
This class is designed for those who are interested in learning about Chado – The Way of Tea and the basic understanding of a simple preparation of matcha (powdered green tea). The Way of Tea has been practiced in Japan for hundreds of years. The session will include a lecture component pertaining to the history and philosophy of Tea as well as hands-on learning.

Jan Waldmann is a Certified Urasenke Instructor. She teaches both privately and at Lewis & Clark College as part of their Asian Studies program.
Jan began the study of Chado in the early 70’s while living in Japan. Over the years, she studied in both Japan and America, receiving her teaching degree from the Urasenke Foundation in Kyoto, Japan in 1989. She specializes in blending the traditional philosophy and movements of Chado with contemporary views of the Ceremony itself.
